Madeleine

In honor of my niece's first birthday, I thought I'd post some photos of the Place de la Madeleine.  On our way to the church, we stopped in at the flower market.  So pretty!

Then we made our way to the Église de la Madeleine, a neo-classic church that looks like a Roman temple.  There are 52 massive corinthian columns around the building.

The Parisians thought the stone steps needed a little color, so they have added these flower boxes.

The bronze doors of the church show the Ten Commandments.

The portico offered a great view down the Rue Royal all the way to the Place de la Concorde.  The neo-classical facade of the Assemblée Nationale (on the other side of the river) is behind the obelisk, with the Hôtel des Invalides behind it to the right.

I took some photos inside the church but it was so dark that they did not turn out.  Oh well, time to take the Metro home.  Happy Birthday, Madeleine!
