When Jess and Josh mentioned to Ramona and Stefano that they might plan to rent a boat to take Kevin and me to the island of Procida, they were told "No, don't rent a boat -- we will all go together with some friends on their boat!" Jess and Josh have truly got some of the most welcoming and friendly neighbors ever.

So it happened that on Sunday about 20 of us boarded not one but two(!) boats and set off for the nearby island of Procida. The anchorage was packed with other local boaters enjoying the sun and calm seas. The water was so clear you could see straight to the rocky bottom, and everyone took a refreshing dip after a few hours in the sun. We had packed some wine and some snacks from Jess's kitchen, but we weren't prepared for the feast that Diego and friends prepared aboard in the tiny galley. We started with raw vongole (small clams) in lemon juice, followed by steamed mussels, and then overflowing plates of pasta with enormous servings of steamed crab. Of course the wine also flowed freely and by the end of the afternoon everyone was speaking our own special brand of Englitalian, using broad gestures to communicate when words would not suffice.

Just before sunset our captains took both boats in to the Procida marina, and everyone stepped off to have a coffee at the cafe before heading back over to the mainland.
