Arrival in Cinque Terre...where is our hotel???!!!

After a long train ride we arrived in Cinque Terre, which is on the north west coast of Italy, near Genoa.  Cinque Terre is named for the five small picturesque hill towns of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare.

We booked a room at Camere La Torre in Vernazza.  Of course I had forgotten to print out any kind of map to the hotel or anything.  But one of the bartenders in town advised us to go up the street, turn right and look for the signs.  This we did, carrying all our 2 suitcases, 2 daypacks, and a laptop bag.  We did not realize that La Torre is pretty much at the top of a hill, reachable only by stairs.  Poor Kevin hiked (with his bag, mind you) all the way up to the La Torre restaurant and bar at the top, only to find out that our room was halfway back down the mountain.

Remember these?  40 lbs each.
In retrospect we probably should've called the phone # before attempting the climb with our bags

My wheeled bag worked perfectly for this stretch

Uh-oh.  The ominous first set of stone stairs.

More stairs.  Are we sure there's no elevator?

The answer is a resounding "No".

It sure is picturesque when you aren't hauling 40 lbs of stuff uphill.

More stairs?  I am so exhausted.

Are we there yet?  Are we even close?

Whew!  Yes!  Here we are.

Hooray!  Camere La Torre!

Wait, what???!!!  TWO spiral staircases?!  Next time I will just bring one outfit.

108 stairs (in total) later we arrive at our room.

See that tower (La Torre) up there?  That's where Kevin originally hiked to (with his bag).

BUT...the view from our balcony was totally worth it!
