Welcome to Reykjavik!

Hallgrimskirkja, largest church in Iceland

We arrived in Manchester, UK to catch the final leg of our three-segment flight to Iceland only to discover that our plane would be delayed several hours due to an Air Traffic Controllers' strike in Iceland impacting all flights in and out of the country.  Not exactly what you want to hear after being awake for the past 24 hours.  Something like this can really Rekjavikation (Get it...wreck ya vacation? In my jetlagged delirium, I thought that was hilarious!)  Finally, three hours late and severely jetlagged, we arrived in Reykjavik, picked up our rental car, and checked into our guesthouse around 8pm.  Just in time to catch the end of the Germany vs. Ukraine match on TV.

TV set up by the city for the UEFA tournament. Everyone is dressed for summer!

We really wanted to sleep but we were starving so we took a short walk into town, checking out some of the sights along the way.  We stopped in at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur which is one of the most popular places in Iceland to get a hot dog.  It was just enough to take the edge off of our hunger, so we headed back to our guesthouse to get some sleep.  Iceland is so far north that in the summer the sun is out til nearly midnight.  Good thing we brought our sleep masks!

  2. Rekjavikation. I'm fully rested today...and I like it! Are you guys going to the Dentalfloss, I mean, Dettifoss Waterfall? Be sure to enjoy the Fáskrúðsfjarðargöng tunnel.

  3. Great to you see your faces again! It must be summer in Arizona, the Salts are on the road - to cold places. So far your trip looks like a fun one.

  4. That church looks like a Game of Thrones backdrop....or maybe something really futuristic. At any rate, it's not your average church :)
