For our last four nights in Bali, we moved back over to the west coast to the popular Seminyak Beach area.
This stretch of beach was loaded with bars and restaurants, all very walkable from our hotel via a beachside boardwalk. It was nice to be able to walk without having to constantly dodge motorbikes.
Our hotel had a great pool. I had the misfortune to come down with a mild case of what they call “Bali Belly” (mild food poisoning) on our first day here, so at least Kevin was able to hang out and have a few Bintang beers at the pool while I stayed back at the hotel room. Oh, the joys of traveling in exotic places!
When I was feeling a little bit better we went up to the hotel’s rooftop terrace to have dinner and watch a beautiful sunset.
We were a little “templed out” by this point, so we decided not to book any more day tours and instead just relax for a couple days before heading onward to Singapore.
Bali has stunning natural sights and ornate temples but I will most remember the very kind and deeply spiritual people here. Tourism is about 80% of Bali’s economy, and we were greeted everywhere with big smiles and sincere welcomes. People went out of their way to teach us a few words of their language, share a joke, offer tea, and show us the true beauty of their island. An unforgettable experience.
