Chartres Part 3: Les Blues Brothers

"Jacques" and Elwood have invaded France as part of the Soirées Estivals de Chartres.

This was a free concert on Saturday just beneath the south portal of Chartres cathedral.  The Blues Brothers came out in character (and in handcuffs) and put on a lively show.

The performance was high-energy, but the crowd really wasn't.  The polite group of mostly French tourists remained seated for most of the show.  Although to give them credit, they did get up to do "The Twist".  And with much prompting from Elwood they did their best to sing the "na, na-na-na-nah" part of "Land of a Thousand Dances".

The backup band was quite good considering that they were from Marseilles and not, in fact, Illinois.

Things got more interesting when a very pale Aretha Franklin showed up.

All the songs were in English, but the backup banter was, of course, in French.  "Nous sommes sur une mission de Dieu!"
